Scratching often starts to ease in one to two weeks; a softer, shinier coat takes four to six. Older dogs can take longer. See the timeline below.

What to expect, week by week

Most disappointment with dog-care products comes from expecting results overnight. This is what a normal timeline looks like.

Product Weeks 1 to 2 Weeks 2 to 4 Weeks 4 to 6
Salmon oil Scratching often starts to ease. Fewer flakes and less loose hair. A softer, shinier coat.
Oral care paste The daily routine settles in. No brushing needed. Fresher breath. Plaque softens and teeth look cleaner.
Paw balm Pads feel softer after a few uses. Small cracks close up. Keep using it before walks in salt or heat.
Slow feeder bowl Meals take minutes instead of seconds. Less gulping and less bringing food back up. A calmer mealtime.

Every dog is different. Older dogs with heavy tartar can take six to eight weeks, and serious dental disease still needs a vet. If you're worried about your dog's health, see your vet first.

What we'll put in writing

Anyone can call a product premium. These are the things that cost us something to promise, which is the only reason they are worth reading.

The dosing chart printed on the Petnostic salmon oil label: up to 10 kg, 2.5 ml; 10 to 25 kg, 5 ml; over 25 kg, 10 ml
The dose is on the bottle, not buried in a website. Printed in Dutch, German and English on every label.
  • The dose is on the label, by weight

Not "as directed". A chart by your dog's weight, printed on every bottle and tube in Dutch, German and English.

  • We tell you when it isn't us

Advanced dental disease needs a vet, not a paste. Loose teeth, bleeding gums or pain when eating: see your vet. We would rather lose the sale.

  • We publish the slow cases too

Older dogs with heavy tartar can take six to eight weeks. That is in our timeline above, not hidden in an FAQ.

  • Sixty days, no conditions

If it does not help your pet, we refund you. Two months is longer than our own timeline needs, which is the point. You do not need to send it back half used or explain yourself.

What the experts say

We didn't invent these routines. Vets and dog-health organisations have written about them for years. Here's what they say.

Salmon oil
Fish oil supplies the omega-3s EPA and DHA, which support healthy skin and a glossy coat. American Kennel Club
Slow feeder bowl
Dogs that eat too fast swallow extra air, which can raise the risk of bloat (GDV). Slow-feeder bowls are one of the recommended ways to slow them down. American Kennel Club
Paw balm
Rubbing paw balm on before winter walks helps limit dryness and salt damage. Reapply after you get home. American Kennel Club

These sources discuss the product categories in general, not Petnostic products specifically. Every dog and cat is different; if you're worried about your pet's health, talk to your vet.

What we changed, and why

Three complaints come up constantly about products like these. Each one is answered by something you can see in the product itself.

  • “The pump leaks and the bottle is always greasy.”

A sealed pump that doses by the pressIn a dark bottle that keeps light out, so the oil stays fresh.

  • “The instructions are only in German.”

Three languages on every labelDutch, German and English, with a dosing chart by your dog's weight.

  • “The bowl slides across the floor and the coating chipped.”

Bare stainless steel, no coatingNothing to chip or flake off into the food.

Luna, a yellow Labrador, looking into the camera

Luna is why this exists

Luna came home from a shelter two years ago. She's a Labrador, almost three, and she is the reason we started — and the first to try each dog product.

Looking after her, we kept running into the same problems: bottles that leaked and instructions we couldn't read. So we started Petnostic to sell a short list of things that work, and to sell them properly.

We're a small team in the Netherlands. If something isn't right with your order, you'll hear back from one of us, not a ticket system.

Questions

Can’t find your answer? Email us and one of us will get back to you.

How long until I see a difference?

It depends on the product. Itching often eases within one to two weeks of daily salmon oil, while a shinier coat and cleaner teeth take four to six weeks. The slow feeder works from the first meal. See the timeline above for each product.

How much salmon oil should my dog get?

The dose depends on your dog's weight. There's a dosing chart on the back of every bottle in Dutch, German and English. For picky eaters, start with half the dose and build up over a week.

Will the oil make my dog or kitchen smell of fish?

The oil is purified to reduce the fish smell, and the pump stops it running down the bottle. Store it somewhere cool and dark, or in the fridge once opened, and use it within 60 days.

Can the oral care paste replace a dental cleaning at the vet?

It's a daily routine that helps keep plaque and bad breath under control, so many dogs need fewer professional cleanings. It can't treat advanced dental disease. If your dog has loose teeth, bleeding gums or pain when eating, see your vet.

My dog licks the paw balm off. Is that a problem?

Rub it in well and keep your dog busy for a minute or two, for example by applying it just before a walk or before bed. Check the ingredient list on the tin if your dog has known allergies.

Which bowl size does my dog need?

It is 18 cm across and 4 cm deep, which suits small dogs and puppies. For medium and large breeds the channels are too shallow to slow them down much, so we would rather tell you now than take the order.
